Academic Achievement.
Community Representation.
Transparency and Accountability.
I’m running for Durham District School Board Trustee to ensure our schools focus on what matters most: strong academics, safe and supportive learning environments, and real accountability.
Parents deserve to know their voices are heard, their concerns are respected, and their children are being prepared for success.

Here for the Community

I will be a clear and consistent advocate for students, parents, and teachers – working to ensure that decisions at the board level reflect the priorities of the community. With a professional background in accounting, I bring a practical, responsible approach to managing public funds, making sure resources are directed where they have the greatest impact on student learning.
My focus is simple: putting students first, supporting families, and ensuring our schools are transparent, effective, and focused on results.
DDSB Cost to Taxpayers
I want to ensure that spending priorities are focused on the best learning environment for students as measured by results.
About Lynda
I’m Lynda Yardley, a Chartered Professional Accountant running for Durham District School Board Trustee with one clear mission: to deliver accountability, transparency, and real results for every student.
With years of experience in financial oversight and results-driven decision-making, I bring a practical, no-nonsense approach to school board governance. As a CPA, I know how to make every tax dollar count - ensuring money goes directly into classrooms, not bureaucracy.
My husband and I have raised two sons, both of whom attended Durham District schools throughout their public school education. Our family has experienced firsthand the value of strong public schools and the important role they play in shaping young lives.
I have lived in Durham Region for nearly 40 years and have called Whitby home for more than a dozen years. This community is deeply important to me, and I care deeply about the future of our schools.
After listening to hundreds of parents, teachers, and families across Durham, I heard the same urgent concerns repeated again and again:
- Declining student achievement, especially in literacy and math
- Classroom disruptions that interfere with learning
- Poor communication between schools and families
These conversations convinced me it was time to step up.
My Priorities for Durham Students
- Strong academic foundations in reading, writing, math, science, and critical thinking
- Safe, respectful classrooms where teachers can teach and every student can learn
- Responsible spending - every dollar directed to the classroom, not administration
- Real parent voice - listening to families and giving them a strong advocate at the board table
- Enriching learning experiences such as science fairs, STEM activities, and hands-on programs
I believe every child deserves the chance to thrive in a positive environment built on excellence, discipline, and high expectations. I will work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to restore confidence in our public schools and deliver better outcomes for all Durham students.
